Resources Articles Emerging e-Learning: trends for the next 5 years
E-learning development is following the path predicted by recent research on innovation cycles and product development. The first generation of e-learning practices and technologies, characterized by the “Tell-Test” model of learning, is being swept away by an explosion of new forms of online educational experiences, as e-learning enters its “second phase”. A “dominant design” for e-learning should emerge in the next 5 years, with new learning theories for technology based learning. At the same time, many current forms of e-learning will disappear, as they are shown to be ineffective. This presentation highlights over 50 new types of online educational experiences and dozens of technological innovations that are just becoming available to instructional designers and teachers. The need for a new personalized, collaborative learning management system that will track and report the results of these e-learning innovations is also discussed. This document contains the PowerPoint slides for talks given by Dr. Gary Woodill at the Information Highways 2006 conference, the annual eLearning Guild Gathering (2006), and the ASTD 2006 conference.
